JIMI HENDRIX: 'Valleys Of Neptune' Video Released
February 18, 2010Spinner has premiered the video for Jimi Hendrix's new single, "Valleys of Neptune", the title track of an upcoming album, due March 9, of studio tracks Hendrix recorded in 1969. The songs capture Jimi's transition from the EXPERIENCE, the group that originally made him famous, to his later work, which was cut short by his death in 1970.
Jimi's sister and Experience Hendrix, LLC CEO Janie Hendrix said: "Before he became a musician, Jimi wanted to be an artist. He went through a phase doing watercolors at school and this was one of the 110 drawings of his that our father kept. When I saw this one from 1957, it screamed 'Valleys of Neptune' so we just knew we'd use it for this project."
That painting is used as a motif throughout the video, which was produced by String Theory Design.
The photo you see on the album cover was shot by Linda McCartney, then Linda Eastman, in 1968. John McDermott, co-producer of "Valleys of Neptune" who is involved with catalog development for Experience Hendrix provided this commentary: "The photo was taken in 1968 before she married Paul. Linda was a close friend of Jimi, Mitch, Noel and Eddie Kramer who was trusted with access to recording sessions at the Record Plant for the making of the 'Electric Ladyland' album. Many of her images were featured on the original LP gatefold — Jimi had even requested that her image of the group sitting in Central Park surrounded by children be the cover for the legendary album. She shot the group in concert, in hotel rooms, jamming with friends such as Dave Mason, traveled with them to the Miami Pop Festival, etc. Linda was so generous with her images throughout the years and many have been featured in subsequent releases by EH. We miss her. She was a heck of lady!"
